Hello, I’m SINAE, a travel writer.
When you open Google Maps and start looking through hotels in Bangkok, the options are endless. There are so many places that look genuinely tempting, it becomes surprisingly difficult to decide where to stay.
Then, once you start checking the better-known luxury hotels, the prices can be a little shocking. $800 night? Is that a hotel rate or a tasting menu? It almost makes you wonder if you are still looking at Southeast Asia.
Of course, places like Capella, Four Seasons, and Mandarin Oriental are beautiful. I would be lying if I said I did not want to stay there. But for a longer stay, the cost is realistically difficult to justify.
The good news is that, with a little searching, you can find a much more affordable hotel that still delivers a very refined experience. For me, that hotel was Eastin Grand Hotel Phayathai Bangkok, a relatively new property that feels far more luxurious than I expected.
This is an Eastin-branded chain hotel, but it is clearly one of the group’s more carefully developed, upscale properties.

A Relatively New Hotel, Opened Only About Three Years Ago
As someone who spends around 300 days a year in hotels, one thing I have learned repeatedly is this: hotels built within the last 3 years rarely disappoint.
Older hotels can renovate aggressively, of course. They can replace furniture, bedding, lighting, and soft furnishings. But the basic structure is much harder to change.
The type of bathroom with a shower over the bathtub? Personally, that is one of my least favorite layouts. Newer hotels tend to have separate shower areas, which makes the room feel cleaner, more practical, and much easier to use.
Another major advantage of Eastin Grand Hotel Phayathai Bangkok is the location. The hotel is directly connected to BTS Phaya Thai Station and the Airport Rail Link, making access exceptionally convenient.
Most of us still take taxis around Bangkok, but anyone who knows Bangkok also knows how serious the traffic can be. There are times when a four-kilometer ride can take nearly an hour. In those moments, the BTS is the correct answer, and having direct station access makes a huge difference.
I had never really thought of Eastin as a true luxury brand. It may be an international hotel brand, but I did not go in expecting an ultra-luxury atmosphere.
So honestly, I was surprised from the moment I entered the lobby. It felt grand, polished, and far more glamorous than I anticipated. The level of refinement was closer to a luxury hotel than I had expected from the brand.
Within the Eastin portfolio, this feels like one of the highest-end properties. If I were to compare the positioning to Marriott, I would place it closer to the level of JW Marriott, The Ritz-Carlton, The Luxury Collection, or St. Regis rather than a standard five-star hotel.

One Bedroom Suite with Lounge Access
For this stay, I spent three nights in a One Bedroom Suite with Lounge Access. The rate was around $250 per night, which felt very reasonable compared with suites at other major chain hotels.
Considering that lounge access includes breakfast, evening drinks, and happy hour, the overall value becomes even stronger.
If you book a lounge access room, check-in is also handled comfortably in the lounge while seated. The space itself feels elegant, with plenty of marble and polished details. As soon as I walked in, I could immediately feel the quality difference.
The interior was modern, but more importantly, the furniture and materials felt genuinely well chosen. Even from photos, you can sense the details, but in person, the room felt noticeably more luxurious than the images on booking sites or the official website suggested.
My suite was located on a high floor, around the 30th floor, so the view was another clear highlight.
There was also turndown service, which is one of those small details that still separates a polished hotel stay from a basic one.
The room included an espresso machine and premium Dilmah tea bags, replenished daily. Since the living room and bedroom were separated, the suite felt much more spacious and comfortable for a longer stay.

Two Swimming Pools with Different Atmospheres
The hotel has two swimming pools.
The main pool is on the 22nd floor, while the second pool is on the 37th floor and has a more modern atmosphere.
The 22nd-floor pool feels bright and charming with its white-toned design, and it photographs beautifully. The higher pool has a sleeker, more contemporary mood.
Since both have different appeal, it is worth experiencing both during your stay.
22nd-Floor Lounge Breakfast & Happy Hour
All guests can have breakfast at Market 5, the main restaurant, but it can get quite busy.
I was curious about both options, so I tried breakfast at the main restaurant and in the lounge. Personally, I preferred the lounge. It felt much more relaxed, and being able to order à la carte dishes made the experience quieter and more comfortable.
Because the hotel has quite a large number of rooms, the main restaurant can even have a queue on weekends.
The menu selection is broadly similar, but I found the lounge food slightly better. In particular, the Hong Kong-style noodles I ordered à la carte were almost identical to the version I had enjoyed at Eastin Sathorn.
They were genuinely delicious. Honestly, the kind of noodles you want to order twice.
There were also croffles, egg dishes, and eggs Benedict, making it a complete five-star breakfast experience.
In the evening, the lounge offers a happy hour for about two hours. This is not just a small snack setup. It is closer to a semi-buffet, substantial enough to replace dinner.
Beer and several cocktails are also served freely, and the mojito was especially memorable. It was not a weak, watered-down version. It came out properly strong and fresh – almost the kind of mojito you remember as one of the best of your life.
Eastin clearly takes cocktails seriously. I had the same impression at the Sathorn property, and Eastin Grand Hotel Phayathai Bangkok delivered just as well.
During my three-night stay, I genuinely did not step outside the hotel.
Even outside meal times, lounge guests can enjoy coffee and tea throughout the day. Between the swimming pools, lounge tea and coffee, evening happy hour, and breakfast the next morning, this is exactly the kind of hotel that works beautifully for a staycation.
If your plan is to relax and enjoy the hotel itself, Lounge Access is absolutely the right choice.

Market 5 Seafood Sunday Brunch Buffet
The Sunday brunch buffet at Market 5, the main restaurant, was genuinely impressive.
It is already popular with local guests and is often fully booked almost every week.
This is not just a standard hotel buffet. It is a seafood-focused buffet filled generously with premium items: unlimited lobster, prawns, Hokkaido scallops, crab, oysters, sushi, and more.
I was genuinely surprised to find this level of seafood quality in Thailand.
I have been to many hotel dinner buffets, but the quality here was excellent, and the variety was extensive.
That said, the price is not exactly light. It is around 3,000 baht per person.
Still, considering how popular it is with local diners, it is clearly not just a tourist-facing offering. If your stay overlaps with a Sunday, I would strongly recommend trying it at least once and arriving hungry.
Beyond seafood, there are also plenty of Japanese dishes, Thai dishes, and other international options. It is one of those buffets where it feels like almost everything is covered.
There are also various promotions for in-house guests, so it is worth checking whether a guest discount applies.

Why I Recommend the Suite Over Superior or Deluxe Rooms
Is this not exactly what a proper hotel staycation should feel like?
Capella may cost around $800 per night these days, but at this hotel, the same amount could cover 2 nights in the suite I stayed in and still leave enough for Sunday seafood brunch for two.
As for quality, honestly, I did not feel there was a dramatic gap. In fact, I found it surprising that a hotel at this level is still available at this price.
However, I would add one important point. Reviews of the Superior and Deluxe rooms are not as consistently strong as the suite category.
That is because the standard rooms may feel closer to a typical five-star hotel room, without anything especially distinctive. The interior concept and overall atmosphere are also quite different from the suite.
Since standard rooms do not include club lounge access, it can be harder to experience the real strength of this hotel.
The price difference between a Deluxe Room with Club Lounge Access and a Suite with Club Lounge Access is not always significant. For that reason, I would personally recommend thinking a little further and booking the suite.
I have also stayed at the Eastin hotel in Sathorn, and one thing is clear to me: Eastin properties take lounge F&B very seriously.
If you keep that in mind when booking, I think Eastin Grand Hotel Phayathai Bangkok may exceed your expectations more than you imagine.

Final Thoughts
For travelers who want a polished Bangkok hotel stay without paying the extreme prices of the city’s top ultra-luxury properties, this hotel is a very compelling choice.
The location is practical, the suite feels genuinely refined, the lounge is excellent, and the food offerings are stronger than expected.
Most importantly, it is the kind of hotel where lounge access truly changes the stay. Without it, you may simply experience a comfortable new five-star hotel. With it, the stay becomes much more complete.
For me, Eastin Grand Hotel Phayathai Bangkok is best enjoyed as a suite stay with lounge access – especially if you are planning a relaxed hotel-focused break in Bangkok.
