Sthala Tribute Portfolio Hotel Ubud Bali review: best value stay in ubud

Hello, I’m SINAE, a travel writer who spends much of the year traveling while working on the road.

Bali is full of places that immediately catch your attention, but Ubud is one of those destinations you need to choose with intention.

Unlike Kuta, Seminyak, or Nusa Dua, where the ocean defines the mood, Ubud is all about jungle scenery, layered greenery, and a quieter, more reflective atmosphere. It is a little farther out, but it is also the kind of place many travelers would regret skipping. I would recommend allowing at least two nights and three days if you want to experience it properly.

With so many hotels in the area, deciding where to stay is not always easy. My own approach was to balance the trip: a more indulgent stay for part of the itinerary, followed by a hotel that offered strong value without feeling underwhelming.

That is how I ended up choosing Sthala Tribute Portfolio Hotel Ubud Bali.

As a 4.5-star design boutique hotel under the Marriott umbrella, it already felt reassuring in terms of overall standards and maintenance. What ultimately drew me in, however, was the pool. Even in photos, it looked striking.

For a hotel in the low-$100 range, the overall quality felt impressive. The property is slightly outside central Ubud, but the complimentary shuttle into town makes it more convenient than the location may initially suggest.

What stood out most once I arrived was the warmth of the staff. They were consistently kind, attentive, and welcoming throughout the stay.

Deluxe River View Room

The room was clean, comfortable, and very much in line with a polished 4.5-star stay. It did not feel overtly luxurious, but it was bright, well maintained, and easy to settle into.

The natural light was excellent, and the greenery outside the window made the room feel immersed in the forest. The bed and facilities were all reassuringly solid, as you would expect from an international chain hotel. Amenities were properly provided, the water pressure was strong, and the hot water worked well without issue.

The terrace added a great deal to the experience. Looking out over the river and pool below, the view felt even more beautiful in person than it had in photos.

From above, the angle is especially photogenic – almost like a ready-made drone shot. If this kind of view matters to you, it is worth requesting the third floor at check-in. Of course, booking a river view room in advance is essential.

For overnight guests, however, the mood is a little different. There is a balance between a stylish, lively energy and the slower sense of ease that many travelers come to Ubud for.

Infinity Pools with a Forest Atmosphere

The pools at Sthala Tribute Portfolio Hotel Ubud Bali are not enormous, but there are two separate pool areas, which helps keep the atmosphere peaceful.

Because the hotel does not have an overwhelming number of rooms, the pool areas never felt crowded. That made it easy to enjoy the setting quietly, which suited Ubud very well.

The rounded shapes set against the greenery also make the space especially photogenic. Rather than competing through sheer scale, the pools offer a more intimate and atmospheric kind of beauty. In that sense, it felt like a hidden gem.

Another pleasant surprise was the pricing. Even within the hotel, a beer and an iced Americano together came to only around USD 5, which felt very reasonable.

There is also a terrace bar on the top floor where you can enjoy the sunset. The atmosphere there felt calm, romantic, and beautifully understated.

A Balinese Feel Within a Marriott Hotel

Although Sthala Tribute Portfolio Hotel Ubud Bali is part of Marriott, it does not feel like a typical standardized chain hotel. The property has a much more boutique-like identity, with a distinctly Balinese atmosphere throughout.

That was one of the things I appreciated most. Chain hotels can sometimes feel a little too predictable, but here, the design details gave the hotel a much stronger sense of place.

The breakfast restaurant reflected that same mood. Overlooking the river below, with bungalow-style seating areas, it felt quiet, private, and deeply relaxing. It was the kind of setting that made breakfast feel less like a routine and more like part of the restorative experience of staying in Ubud.

Final Thoughts

If you are considering a stay in Ubud, this hotel strikes a very appealing balance between price, atmosphere, and overall quality.

It may not offer the dramatic luxury of Bali’s highest-end villa resorts, but that is not really what makes it memorable. What stayed with me was the combination of beautiful natural surroundings, thoughtful design, warm service, and a level of comfort that felt more satisfying than the price might suggest.

The staff were especially memorable. Their warmth and attentiveness made the stay feel even more pleasant, and the overall atmosphere was calm enough that I found myself wishing I had booked longer—perhaps five nights instead of just a short stay.

For travelers who want to experience Ubud’s lush jungle mood without moving into a far more expensive resort, Sthala Tribute Portfolio Hotel Ubud Bali feels like a very strong choice.

Compared with other Ubud hotels in a similar price range and category, sthala tribute portfolio hotel ubud bali was one of the most satisfying stays for me.
