Bangkok is home to an extraordinary number of hotels, including almost every major international brand. Marriott and Hilton naturally have a large presence, but the city also has many slightly smaller regional groups such as Dusit and Eastin.
And sometimes, choosing one of these brands carefully can lead to a surprisingly high-quality stay for the price.
One of those hotels is Eastin Grand Hotel Sathorn Bangkok.
Sathorn Location – Direct BTS Access Makes It Ideal During the Rainy Season
As the name suggests, the hotel is located in Sathorn.
I usually stay around Sukhumvit whenever I am in Bangkok, so this was my first time staying in this part of the city this year. I was pleasantly surprised by how many practical advantages the area had.
ICONSIAM, one of Bangkok’s most popular shopping malls, is very close, as is River City Bangkok, where many dinner cruises depart. The surrounding area is also filled with well-known cafés and Michelin-recognized local restaurants, including popular som tam spots, so the location turned out to be far more convenient than I had expected.
At first glance, Sathorn may appear farther from Suvarnabhumi Airport than Sukhumvit because it sits farther west. In practice, however, the nearby expressway access can actually make the drive quicker. From Suvarnabhumi International Airport, it took around 40 minutes by car.
One of the strongest advantages of Eastin Grand Hotel Sathorn Bangkok is its direct connection to Surasak BTS Station from the hotel’s fourth floor.
Anyone who has visited Bangkok during rush hour – or during a heavy tropical downpour – will know how quickly traffic can come to a standstill. At those times, taking the BTS is often the most practical solution. The covered walkway allows you to reach the station without stepping outside, which is particularly valuable during the rainy season.
The airport can also be reached by rail with connections to Bangkok’s BTS network.

Executive Deluxe with Lounge Access
This time, I stayed in an Executive Deluxe room with lounge access.
When I visited in May, I stayed in a Superior room with lounge access, so this gave me the opportunity to experience a different room category.
One of the most distinctive features of the Executive Deluxe room is its size. The bedroom itself is generous, but there is also a rather unexpected tucked-away table area inside the room. It feels almost like a small private workspace and is an excellent setup for anyone who needs to work during their stay.
For me, however, the real highlight was the bathroom.
It is spacious, and the panoramic city view is genuinely beautiful. Executive rooms are located on the hotel’s highest floors, so the views are considerably more impressive than those from the lower room categories.
Guests with lounge access can also check in privately at the lounge, enjoy coffee and tea throughout the day, have breakfast there, and return in the evening for free-flow cocktails during happy hour. It is the kind of setup that makes staying inside the hotel feel like part of the trip rather than simply somewhere to sleep.
That said, I was less impressed by the standard Superior room.
The property has been open for some time, and in the lower room categories, the age of the hotel can be more noticeable. If you expect to spend a substantial amount of time in your room, I would strongly recommend choosing the Executive Deluxe category.
Lounge Breakfast – Better Than the Main Restaurant, in My Opinion
The food and beverage quality here is exceptional. In fact, among the Bangkok hotels I have stayed at, this is one of the properties that has impressed me most in terms of F&B.
To be completely honest, the hotel’s hardware is not quite as polished as some of Bangkok’s newest luxury properties. But the quality of the food is so strong that it compensates for much of that.
The main buffet restaurant on the fifth floor offers a wide selection, but the real highlight is the executive lounge.
Breakfast is served as a semi-buffet combined with à la carte dishes, and there is a generous range of items available to order.
I ordered three main dishes: a croffle, Hong Kong-style noodles, and eggs Benedict.
The presentation was beautiful, but more importantly, each dish tasted genuinely well executed. The Hong Kong-style noodles were particularly impressive. I honestly could not understand how they had managed to recreate the flavor so closely to what I had eaten in Hong Kong itself.
At that point, it no longer felt like simply “good hotel food.” It felt comparable to dining at a proper specialty restaurant.
There is a Michelin-recognized Chinese restaurant on the hotel’s fourth floor, and I even found myself wondering whether the same kitchen team might be involved – the standard really felt that high.
The croffle was easily one of the best I have tried.
I visit a great many hotels and popular cafés throughout the year, and I spend close to 300 days annually traveling abroad, so I do not say that lightly. But this one stood out. The dim sum was also served warm, delicate, and beautifully soft.
If you book Eastin Grand Hotel Sathorn Bangkok with lounge access, I would absolutely recommend having breakfast in the lounge rather than downstairs.
The Lounge – Closer to a Proper Rooftop Bar
Personally, if a hotel has an executive lounge, I usually prefer booking a room that includes access.
Even when I spend the day sightseeing, it is convenient to be able to return at any time for coffee or tea. Lounge-level rooms are also generally located on higher floors, and the overall service and in-room amenities tend to be a step above the standard categories.
The bathroom has a separate shower area, while bathtubs are available only in corner rooms, which is worth keeping in mind when choosing your room.
To reduce single-use packaging, the bath amenities are provided in large refillable bottles. Toothbrushes and the usual essentials are also supplied, and turndown service is offered at around 6 PM.
The room design feels slightly classic rather than contemporary, but the overall condition is clean and well maintained. It still has the reassuring consistency you expect from an established chain hotel.
Happy hour is served on the 33rd floor from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM.
What surprised me most was the cocktail quality. One member of staff in particular clearly takes cocktails seriously, and the drinks would not feel out of place at one of Bangkok’s better-known rooftop bars.
Honestly, they tasted comparable to cocktails that might cost around KRW 20,000 each elsewhere.
Because the lounge sits on the highest floor, the panoramic view is excellent. Between the skyline and the cocktails, I never felt any real need to visit one of Bangkok’s famous “top three” rooftop bars during the stay.
The food selection is also substantial enough to count as a light dinner, with sushi, finger foods, and a generous variety of savory dishes. It is very easy to leave completely full.
This is where the hotel delivers some of its strongest value.
Outdoor Pool – And Excellent Value in the Low-$100 Range
The outdoor swimming pool is located on the 14th floor.
Most city hotels I visit place their pools around the sixth or seventh floor, so I was surprised to find this one positioned so high above the street.
It is designed as an urban infinity-style pool, allowing you to swim while looking across Bangkok’s dense skyline of high-rise buildings.
There is also a bar and restaurant beside the pool, making it easy to spend a relaxed afternoon on a sunbed with food and drinks without leaving the hotel.
Personally, the atmosphere reminded me slightly of the swimming pool at The Westin Singapore.
And honestly, it is difficult to find this overall level of experience in Bangkok for a rate in the low-$100 range.
I have also stayed at Eastin Grand Hotel Phayathai, a much newer and larger property nearby. If I compare only the quality of the lounge food, however, I preferred the Sathorn property by a clear margin.
There is one important caveat.
If you book only a standard room and do not use the executive lounge, the experience may feel less impressive than expected. The rooms themselves are not the primary reason I would choose this hotel.
The real strength of Eastin Grand Hotel Sathorn Bangkok becomes clear when you stay with lounge access. That is when the food, cocktails, skyline views, private check-in, all-day refreshments, and overall value come together—and when the hotel feels at its best.
