Pattaya is one of the closest resort destinations to Bangkok. The sea may not be quite as beautiful as Phuket’s, but its proximity to Bangkok – only around 210 km away – has made it an enduringly popular getaway.
The highway connecting Bangkok and Pattaya is well developed, and the journey usually takes around two hours. This also makes Pattaya a favorite weekend escape for people living in Bangkok, and in many ways, it feels as much like a local holiday destination as an international resort city.
One of the Best Hotels in Pattaya
There are countless hotels and resorts in Pattaya, but Hilton Pattaya Hotel occupies one of the most central and convenient locations in the city.
It sits right in the heart of Beach Road, making it easy to explore virtually anywhere in Pattaya. One of the city’s largest shopping malls is directly beside – and effectively connected to – the hotel, with a supermarket, restaurants, cafés, and plenty of shopping options all within immediate reach.
If I had to point out one disadvantage, it would simply be the price.
At around $200 per night, it is not extraordinarily expensive compared with five-star hotels in Bangkok, but within Pattaya, it certainly sits among the more luxurious and expensive options.
One useful tip: room rates can rise by as much as 50% from Friday through Sunday. If your schedule is flexible, I strongly recommend staying between Monday and Thursday instead. Not only can the rates be considerably lower, but the overall atmosphere also tends to feel more relaxed.
A High-Rise Hotel with Extraordinary Views
This is not the traditional resort style with expansive grounds and a private beach.
Instead, Hilton Pattaya Hotel is a high-rise property. However, the beach is literally just across the road, so I never felt that the lack of a private beach was a meaningful disadvantage.
In fact, being housed in one of Pattaya’s few truly tall buildings became one of the hotel’s greatest strengths.
The elevated position allows you to enjoy a perspective that is difficult to find elsewhere in the city. With relatively few tall buildings surrounding the property, the ocean views remain remarkably open and unobstructed.
And the view from the Club Lounge? Without question, it was one of the highlights of the entire stay.

Hilton Diamond Member – Suite Upgrade
One of the hotel’s biggest advantages is that the sea stretches out on both sides of the building, meaning every guest room offers an ocean view.
I had stayed at the Hard Rock immediately before coming here, where only a limited number of rooms offered proper sea views. My room there felt a little enclosed by comparison.
Here, whichever room category you choose, you can expect an impressive view. Even without leaving your room, there is a strong sense that you are staying in a genuine seaside destination. And because there are very few tall buildings nearby, the ocean feels wonderfully expansive.
The lobby is not located on the ground floor, so you first take the elevator upstairs for check-in.
Hilton Honors Diamond and Gold members can check in at the lounge on the highest floor while enjoying a cup of coffee, which immediately makes the arrival experience feel a little more special. As a Diamond member, I received a suite upgrade during my stay at Hilton Pattaya Hotel.
The suite had a spacious living area, with a king-size bed positioned beside it. Even from the bed, I could look directly toward the sea, and the room was designed for easy access to the terrace.
The bathroom was bright, white, and immaculately maintained, with generous proportions and a large, rounded bathtub that made it particularly comfortable for relaxing.
Even among five-star hotels in Thailand, it is not always easy to find accommodation in this condition. The overall quality was genuinely among the best I have experienced.
The standard rooms are essentially similar in design, simply without the separate living room found in the suite. Their condition was equally impressive, so I would not feel disappointed staying in a regular room here either.
A Spectacular Infinity Pool with an Ocean View
The infinity pool is one of the facilities that many guests consistently praise, and after seeing it myself, I immediately understood why.
From the pool, you look directly toward Pattaya’s blue sea, creating an almost seamless visual connection between the water and the horizon. At moments, it genuinely feels as though you are floating above the ocean.
Walking along Pattaya Beach at street level, I never imagined that such a dramatic view existed above me. Seeing it from the hotel completely changed my impression of the city.
I have stayed at many hotels throughout Thailand, and in terms of both the physical condition of the property and the scenery, this one is exceptionally impressive.
I have also stayed at numerous Hilton properties around the world, and personally, this ranks among the very best I have experienced. In some respects, I even found the overall experience more impressive than several Conrad properties I have visited.
There is, however, one small drawback – and whether it is actually a disadvantage will depend entirely on personal preference.
The pool receives very little direct sunlight. Between approximately 8 AM and 11 AM, sunlight reaches roughly one-third of the pool for a relatively short period. By afternoon, however, most of the area remains shaded.
For travelers who prefer to avoid strong tropical sunshine, this may actually be ideal.
Personally, I enjoy sunshine around the pool. The water can feel a little cool without it, and I also prefer natural light for photographs – and, admittedly, for getting a little tan.
So the lack of sunlight was one aspect I found slightly disappointing.
Generous Breakfast & a Romantic Lounge Happy Hour
From 2 PM to 4 PM, the lounge serves afternoon refreshments with tea and coffee.
The coffee here was surprisingly good. At many hotels in Thailand, I find the beans quite heavily roasted, sometimes resulting in a flavor that feels a little too dark or intense for my taste.
Here, the coffee had a smoother Arabica-style character, closer to what you might expect from Starbucks or illy, which I personally enjoyed much more.
From 6 PM to 8 PM, the lounge transitions into evening happy hour, with wine, beer, and a selection of light dishes.
To be completely fair, the variety and composition of the food were somewhat limited compared with the executive lounges at some five-star hotels in Bangkok.
But then again…
This was a place where the view did much of the work. Simply sitting with a cold beer, watching the light change over Pattaya and enjoying the atmosphere was enough to make the experience memorable.
And if you are still slightly hungry afterward, dining is incredibly easy because the hotel is directly connected to the shopping mall below. You can simply head downstairs and choose from outdoor street-food stalls or the mall’s extensive selection of indoor restaurants.
Convenience is certainly not an issue here.
Breakfast at Hilton Pattaya Hotel is available both in the lounge and in the main breakfast restaurant, so I tried each option during my stay.
For the overall selection, however, the main buffet restaurant was the clear winner. The spread was genuinely generous, extending to items such as sushi and even ice cream.
It was substantial enough that you could almost skip lunch afterward.
Breakfast in the lounge is much quieter, with a simple semi-buffet accompanied by à la carte dishes. The selection is more limited, but if you prefer a calm and peaceful breakfast rather than a large buffet, the lounge is a very pleasant alternative.
If You Haven’t Stayed Here, Have You Really Seen Pattaya?
From street level, the hotel does not necessarily look extraordinary.
Looking up, my first impression was simply, Oh, it’s a hotel above a huge shopping mall. The location must be convenient.
But once I reached the upper floors and looked down over the city and ocean, I understood why this property receives so much attention. This is where Pattaya truly reveals itself.
During my time in the city, I visited several well-known cafés and restaurants, yet I did not find another place with a view quite as impressive as this.
If you genuinely want to experience Pattaya – not simply visit it – I think spending at least one night at Hilton Pattaya Hotel is well worth considering.
Ideally, though, I would prefer something much longer.
If circumstances allowed, I could easily imagine staying for at least five nights and six days, slowing everything down, resting properly, and simply enjoying the surroundings. The next time I return, I would like to stay as long as possible.
Traveling to exactly the same destination can feel completely different depending on where you stay, and this hotel reminded me just how much accommodation can shape the overall satisfaction of a trip.
Especially when planning a resort holiday in Southeast Asia, I would always recommend choosing a property you genuinely want to experience and allowing yourself enough time to enjoy it properly.
And even if you do not book the suite I stayed in, every room here comes with a sea view. In that sense, it is very difficult to make a wrong choice.
For anyone planning a trip to Pattaya, this is one hotel I would genuinely recommend experiencing at least once.
