The St. Regis Maldives Vommuli Resort Review: Restaurants, Dining & All-Inclusive Experience

Hello, I’m SINAE. I spend most of the year traveling abroad—nearly 300 days annually—and among the many destinations I visit, tropical resorts remain my personal favorite.

Among all the beach destinations I have experienced, the Maldives stands apart for one reason above all others: the ocean. The color of the water is simply extraordinary—an almost unreal shade of emerald and turquoise that is difficult to compare with anywhere else in the world.

Despite being remarkably private and remote, the Maldives is also surprisingly comfortable for travelers who need connectivity. Even in such a secluded setting, internet access at the resort was reliable, which meant there was no real inconvenience during the stay.

During this trip, I spent three nights and four days at The St. Regis Maldives Vommuli Resort. Reaching the island requires approximately one hour by seaplane. Because both the travel time and the cost of the transfer are significant, I would recommend staying at least three nights to truly make the journey worthwhile. (For detailed information about the seaplane transfer, please refer to my previous post.)

Once you arrive, the experience feels almost surreal—an emerald ocean stretching endlessly around the island, paired with an atmosphere designed entirely for quiet, luxurious relaxation.

Even considering the time and expense required to reach the resort, it felt like the kind of destination that is worth experiencing at least once in a lifetime.

Dining at The St. Regis Maldives Vommuli Resort

One of the unique aspects of a Maldives island resort is that once you arrive, everything takes place within the property itself. There are no nearby towns or restaurants to explore. For that reason, choosing a meal plan carefully is important, and many travelers opt for a full-board or all-inclusive option.

During my stay at The St. Regis Maldives Vommuli Resort, I had the opportunity to try several of the resort’s restaurants, each offering a distinct culinary style.

ALBA — Breakfast with an Ocean View

Breakfast is served at ALBA, the resort’s main restaurant. While floating breakfasts in the villa pools are popular in the Maldives, ALBA offers a more traditional but equally enjoyable start to the day.

The breakfast format combines à la carte dishes with a semi-buffet selection. Guests can order freshly prepared egg dishes, toast, or waffles, while a variety of other items are available at the buffet.

A morning glass of sparkling wine, followed by avocado toast and eggs Benedict, quickly became part of my routine. The menu also included options such as a Japanese-style breakfast set, offering a surprisingly wide range of choices.

One highlight was the bakery selection. The croissants were exceptionally soft and buttery—easily among the best pastries I encountered during the trip.

Enjoying a relaxed breakfast while looking out over the ocean felt like the perfect way to begin the day. It is difficult to imagine a more peaceful setting for a morning meal.

ALBA also serves lunch and dinner, and the overall quality exceeded my expectations. The cuisine is international, meaning guests can choose from a variety of dishes inspired by different culinary traditions around the world.

Lunch & Dinner at ALBA

For lunch, lighter dishes such as burgers and appetizers are available. In the evening, however, the atmosphere shifts toward a more refined dining experience.

Guests who choose the full-board option can select:

  • one appetizer
  • one main course
  • one dessert
  • one beverage (alcoholic drinks excluded).

At first glance, the menu prices may come as a surprise—many dishes are actually more expensive than those in Manhattan. However, this reflects the logistical realities of the Maldives. Nearly all ingredients must be imported and transported by boat, which significantly increases costs.

For this reason, having a full-board plan allows guests to order freely without worrying about the price of each dish. For honeymoon travelers especially, it removes the uncomfortable feeling of having to limit meals at a place designed for indulgence.

Dinner at ALBA is served almost like a fine-dining experience. The quality was impressive enough that even in Korea, it would likely command similar prices.

One evening, I ordered a tenderloin steak, handmade tiramisu, and a glass of red wine. With the gentle sound of the ocean in the background, it felt like the perfect way to end the day.

T-Pan — Japanese Teppanyaki Experience

Another memorable dining experience at The St. Regis Maldives Vommuli Resort is T-Pan, a Japanese-style teppanyaki restaurant.

The meal follows a kaiseki-inspired structure, where the chef prepares a sequence of dishes using the best ingredients available that day. Watching the chef cook directly on the teppan grill adds an element of performance to the dinner.

During my visit, the menu featured Japanese beef prepared as teppanyaki, accompanied by fresh seafood including cod, shrimp, and scallops. Paired with sake, the experience almost felt as though I had briefly traveled to Japan rather than remaining in the Maldives.

The beef was grilled perfectly—crispy on the outside, incredibly tender inside, and full of rich juices. When eaten with fresh wasabi and black salt, the flavors melted together beautifully.

The meal concluded with miso soup and a bowl of rice, a simple yet satisfying finish.

All restaurants at The St. Regis Maldives Vommuli Resort require reservations in advance. Fortunately, every villa includes a dedicated butler service, so arranging reservations is effortless.

It is worth noting that T-Pan is not included in the all-inclusive meal plan. Because of this, the restaurant often feels very quiet, almost as if you have the entire venue to yourself.

The price is approximately $300 per person, which is undeniably expensive. However, considering the quality of the ingredients and the overall dining experience, it felt justified.

There is also a dress code—gentlemen should avoid wearing shorts.

Orientale — Asian Cuisine

Among the resort’s restaurants, Orientale is one of the most popular.

This restaurant focuses on Asian cuisine and offers a surprisingly diverse menu that includes Chinese, Japanese, Korean, and Thai dishes.

Compared with other restaurants at the resort, the pricing here is relatively moderate. Guests who select the full-board plan can choose an appetizer, main dish, dessert, and beverage without focusing too much on the menu prices.

After spending several days abroad, it was comforting to see familiar Asian dishes on the menu. Sushi rolls, for example, provided a satisfying meal thanks to the rice, while the spicy Sichuan-style soups were perfect for anyone craving bold flavors after days of Western cuisine.

The Korean dishes were particularly interesting. Items such as dakgangjeong (Korean fried chicken) and kimchi fried rice were available, and the resort even employs a Korean chef. The flavors felt authentic rather than imitative.

For the main course, there were also seafood options such as lobster.

For many Korean travelers, Orientale may feel like the most satisfying restaurant at the resort.

The Whale Bar — Sunset & Cocktails

The Whale Bar is one of the most iconic spots at The St. Regis Maldives Vommuli Resort.

The bar opens only in the evening, from 6:00 PM to midnight. Each evening at 6:45 PM, the staff performs a champagne sabering ceremony, opening a bottle dramatically with a saber.
Watching the ceremony while the sun sets over the Indian Ocean creates a moment that feels almost cinematic.

Sitting at the bar with a cocktail while the sky gradually turns from gold to deep orange is one of the most memorable experiences on the island.

During my visit, I tried a local coconut whiskey and the bar’s signature Bloody Mary. I have always preferred Bloody Mary for its slightly spicy and refreshing character, and here it was served in a beautiful shell-shaped glass, which made the presentation even more charming.

Stopping by before dinner is highly recommended. It transforms an ordinary evening into something that feels truly special.

Final Thoughts

My three-night stay at The St. Regis Maldives Vommuli Resort felt almost dreamlike.

Having traveled widely and stayed in countless hotels around the world, this resort still stands out as one of the most exceptional experiences I have had.

Every restaurant offered beautifully prepared food, and the level of service throughout the property was consistently refined and attentive.

Because the Maldives has hundreds of luxury resorts, choosing where to stay can feel overwhelming. However, for travelers seeking a resort where culinary quality, variety of restaurants, and overall service all reach a very high level, this property is a compelling choice.

For a once-in-a-lifetime honeymoon or a truly special trip, choosing a globally recognized luxury brand can provide peace of mind. Within the Marriott portfolio, The St. Regis Maldives Vommuli Resort represents one of the most prestigious options available.
