Hello, I’m SINAE, a travel writer who spends nearly 300 days each year abroad.
Bali, Indonesia, is one of the most distinctive destinations in Southeast Asia. For me, it holds an even deeper meaning – I have visited almost every year for the past decade, typically staying for about two weeks each time.
It is often said that while some people have never been, no one goes just once – and that sentiment feels entirely accurate.
Located in the southern hemisphere, Bali requires a relatively long flight despite being part of Southeast Asia, and airfare can be noticeably expensive. From Korea in particular, flight schedules tend to be somewhat inconvenient, which often makes staying near the airport in Kuta almost inevitable, at least for the first or last night.
This is where The Stones Hotel Legian Bali Autograph Collection becomes particularly practical. It is situated approximately 20 minutes by car from Ngurah Rai International Airport, offering a convenient transition after arrival.
The hotel is also within walking distance of Beachwalk Shopping Center, making it easy to exchange money or take care of essentials on the first day.
On the final day, after checking out, the location works just as well – you can enjoy dinner at Beachwalk and spend some relaxed time at Starbucks or % Arabica before heading to the airport.
It is worth noting that there is no true airport hotel within the airport itself. Even if you choose a nearby property like Hilton Garden Inn, you will still need to take a taxi to access dining, shopping, or currency exchange.

Premium Plunge Room (Upgraded via Titanium Benefits)
The room I stayed in during this visit was particularly distinctive.
The Premium Plunge Room is located on the ground floor and features a private plunge pool – smaller than a full private pool, yet more spacious than a jacuzzi.
For families traveling with children, the direct access from the room makes it especially enjoyable. At first, I assumed it would mainly appeal to families – but with the privacy curtain drawn, it also creates a surprisingly intimate atmosphere for couples.
Overall, it is a unique room type with multiple advantages, and if availability allows, it is well worth experiencing.
The bedding quality was consistent with what one would expect from a five-star property. The bathroom has an open-concept design, creating a sense of space, with the option to enclose it using curtains. The separate shower booth adds to the overall practicality.
The amenities were of good quality, and the inclusion of an Illy coffee machine added a small but meaningful touch of comfort. For a relaxed hotel stay, this setup is more than sufficient.
One important consideration: due to the structural layout, natural sunlight does not enter the room directly. As a result, the space can feel slightly dim and humid at times.
Standard rooms feature bathtubs located on the terrace. However, using them comfortably requires wearing swimwear, which can feel somewhat inconvenient.

One of the Largest Pools in Kuta & Legian
Excluding the Nusa Dua resort complex, The Stones Hotel Legian Bali Autograph Collection is widely known for having one of the largest swimming pools in the Kuta–Legian area.
The scale is impressive enough that guests can float around on tubes while staff occasionally serve fresh fruit – an experience that feels both relaxed and thoughtfully curated.
There are plenty of sunbeds, and the overall environment is well-suited for spending extended time by the pool.
Pricing & Overall Value
With room rates typically ranging from $120 to $150 per night, it is not easy to find a five-star hotel at this price point.
Bali, unlike many other Southeast Asian destinations, tends to have slightly higher overall hotel pricing. Considering the design, quality, and brand reliability, The Stones Hotel Legian Bali Autograph Collection stands out as a strong value.
As part of the Marriott portfolio, the property is directly managed under a global standard, and the consistency in service is noticeable.
During happy hour, drinks are offered as a 1+1 promotion, with prices around $4 per drink – a reasonable cost that enhances the overall experience.

Breakfast – Surprisingly Strong
Having experienced numerous high-end luxury hotels – including Kempinski, Ayana Segara, Kayon Jungle, Viceroy Ubud, and The Laguna Luxury Collection – I found the breakfast here to be comparable, and in some aspects even better.
Fresh juices are available in a variety of options, fruits are prepared on-site, and the coffee – likely Illy – was notably good.
The hot food selection is extensive, including freshly prepared Indonesian mie goreng made to order. There is even ice cream available, and overall, the variety feels comprehensive.
Eggs Benedict is also offered, which is often omitted even in upscale hotels due to the effort required.

Drawbacks – Structural Limitation
Despite its many strengths, the most significant drawback lies in the building layout.
The structure is a square configuration with a central pool – a design that allows for efficient room density but comes with compromises.
When opening the room door, other guest rooms are immediately visible, and more importantly, there is no ocean view from the pool area.
In a destination like Bali, the absence of a sea view can feel slightly disappointing.
Final Thoughts
Even with these limitations, The Stones Hotel Legian Bali Autograph Collectionremains a compelling choice.
The combination of reliable service from a global brand and a relatively accessible price point makes it difficult to find a direct alternative in this category.
Personally, it felt closer to a strong 4.5-star experience rather than a full luxury five-star level.
For its price, location, and overall offering, The Stones Hotel Legian Bali Autograph Collection remains a highly practical and satisfying option in Bali.
