A Five-Star Stay with a Different Level of Refinement
Even within the five-star category, there are clear differences in standard. Compared with Kuta Beach, Nusa Dua, or Seminyak, hotels around Uluwatu often feel more sophisticated and distinctly more luxurious. It is also a destination that would be perfectly suited to a honeymoon.
I arrived with mixed expectations after reading reviews, but the moment I stepped inside, I was genuinely surprised. The hotel carried a level of polish and elegance that immediately felt far more elevated than I had expected.
The lobby opens onto a sweeping view that is difficult to describe without sounding exaggerated. It is one of those spaces that instantly stirs something in you. The ceilings are remarkably high, and as part of the Marriott group, the property is clearly maintained to a strong international standard.
I stayed for two nights and three days, and I found myself regretting, more than once, that I had not booked a full week instead.
What I appreciated most was the atmosphere: no large tour groups, no crowds, just a calm and restful setting where it was possible to enjoy genuine downtime.

Titanium Elite Upgrade to a Suite
With my Titanium Elite benefits, I received a suite upgrade.
The design felt stylish and current, and what impressed me most was how carefully every detail had been considered. I kept finding myself admiring individual pieces of furniture and small design choices throughout the room.
Even the bathroom was beautiful enough to make me think that I could happily live in a place like this. There was a bathtub inside, and the shower area opened toward the outside through a window, which made the space feel airy rather than enclosed. That detail especially suited my taste.
Even the choice of a single rattan chair felt artful.
To be honest, some Marriott properties can occasionally feel as though the design has been replicated too uniformly across brands. But here, the Renaissance identity feels much more distinctive. It has a strong sense of style and does not leave you with the impression that you are experiencing the same hotel over and over again in different countries.
In that sense, Renaissance Bali Uluwatu Resort & Spa felt closer to a boutique hotel than to a conventional chain property.
An Infinity Pool Even Better Than the Photos
There are countless hotels with ocean-view pools. But in Bali, it is also quite common to visit a pool that looked stunning on Instagram, only to find that it feels less impressive in person. Some are overcrowded, and in some places, people are even lining up just to take photos.
This was not one of those places.
What made the pool even more striking in real life was its position high on the cliff, looking down toward the sea. That perspective gave it a much more dramatic and expansive feeling than photographs could fully capture.
As you keep swimming toward the edge, there is even a moment when it almost feels as though you could drift right over the cliff into the ocean below.
What I loved most was that there were not many guests using it, so despite the pool’s generous size, it almost felt as though I had it to myself.
There were a few foreign guests, but most of them were simply sunbathing on the loungers rather than swimming.
I still remember how beautiful the water looked with the reflection of the bright blue sky.
The red and blue beanbags floating in the pool were also available for guests to use freely, and drifting on the water with one of those and a fresh coconut juice in hand felt like pure heaven.
Breakfast Served as an Elegant A La Carte Experience
There was a time when I loved buffets because I could take as much food as I liked. At some point, though, I began to find the whole process of getting up repeatedly to collect food slightly tiresome.
At truly luxurious properties, especially those without an excessive number of rooms, breakfast is often served à la carte rather than as a traditional buffet.
That does not mean less variety. In fact, there is no reason to feel disappointed by the format, because you are free to continue ordering from the menu as much as you like. In the end, it feels very much like a buffet, only one that is brought beautifully to your table.
Once seated, you simply order, and the staff continue placing attractively plated dishes in front of you.
The local dishes were particularly good, and some of them were substantial enough that even one order could be quite filling, so it is worth thinking carefully before deciding what to request.
There was also a wide selection of bakery items, tropical fruit, fresh juices, egg dishes, and desserts.
Breakfast officially ended around 10:30 a.m., but I arrived at 10:00 and stayed until around 11:30. Once your order has been placed, the experience remains pleasantly relaxed, so I was able to enjoy it at an unhurried pace until it almost felt like lunchtime.
Access to Roosterfish Beach Club
Guests staying at Renaissance Bali Uluwatu Resort & Spa also have access to Roosterfish Beach Club, which has become quite popular in Bali.
One of the best parts is that the shuttle bus is complimentary for hotel guests, and there is no minimum spend requirement.
Normally, each seating area comes with its own minimum charge, but hotel guests are free to sit wherever they prefer. For example, beachfront cabana-style seating can cost around IDR 1.1 million, yet guests staying at the hotel can simply take a seat there. Even ordering nothing more than a beer is perfectly acceptable.
Pandawa Beach is also nearby, so it is easy to take the shuttle, look around the area, and then return later at a convenient time.
The Main Drawback, and Why the Hotel Handles It Well
If there is one real limitation, it is that the property sits on a hill. While that gives it wonderful ocean views, it also means there is no direct beach access.
Still, I thought the way the hotel addressed this was remarkably smart. Instead of leaving that disadvantage unresolved, it created a system that allows guests to reach both the beach and the beach club comfortably by shuttle.
That said, the location is not especially close. The journey takes around 20 to 30 minutes by car, so it is important to allow enough time.
Excellent Value for Uluwatu
The Uluwatu area is home to many ultra-luxury hotels, often priced at 700 to 800 dollars per night or more.
In contrast, Renaissance Bali Uluwatu Resort & Spa usually falls within the 200 to 300 dollar range, which makes it feel far more approachable while still delivering a polished and luxurious experience.
That is precisely what makes it so appealing. It offers a stay that feels indulgent, yet still reasonably priced for the area.
Final Thoughts
For me, this was a hotel that delivered not only attractive design and beautiful views, but also a real sense of peace.
It offered the kind of stay that made me slow down, rest properly, and regret leaving too soon.
Among Uluwatu hotels in this price range, Renaissance Bali Uluwatu Resort & Spa left a particularly strong impression.
