Hello, I’m SINAE, a travel writer and photographer who travels around the world.
Bali, Indonesia, is one of the world’s most beloved resort destinations. Each area has its own distinct character, to the point where traveling across Bali can almost feel like visiting several different countries within one island.
It is a place where you can experience pure luxury in one corner, and just nearby, enjoy something far more local and budget-conscious. Accommodation prices vary widely, from around $50 per night to $500 or more, yet Bali has a remarkable way of offering a sense of satisfaction at almost every price point.
Of course, I would love to stay at luxurious resorts every time. But for long-term travelers, there is always a practical side to consider. If you still care about the basics – quality bedding, reliable hot water, a bathroom without unpleasant drainage smells, a swimming pool, and a fitness center – then choosing an affordable property within a global hotel chain can be a very sensible answer.

Only Five Minutes by Car from the Airport
Hilton Garden Inn Bali Ngurah Rai Airport is, quite literally, defined by its proximity to the airport.
Most guests seem to stay here either on the final night before a flight or on the first night after arriving in Bali. However, because it is also relatively close to Kuta Beach, I have personally used it as a base for a longer Bali stay as well.
After making a reservation, you can arrange the airport shuttle by email. The hotel also operates a shuttle to Kuta Beach at set times during the day. My personal suggestion would be to take the shuttle on the way there, then either walk back slowly during the daytime or return by taxi.

Not a “Wow” Hotel, But a Solid Three-Star Experience
This is not a property that will immediately impress you with grand design or luxury. However, for a three-star hotel, it offers exactly what many practical travelers need: a clean room, a central swimming pool, and the reliability of a global chain.
The pool is actually larger than I expected. It is not just a small decorative pool, but quite long and spacious enough to enjoy properly. There is also a fitness center, which makes the hotel surprisingly convenient for a longer stay.
Among Hilton members, Hilton Garden Inn Bali Ngurah Rai Airport is already well known as one of the better-value options in Bali.
That said, the atmosphere can differ quite noticeably depending on the floor. The first floor does not receive much natural light, so it may feel slightly damp and less refreshing. If possible, I would recommend requesting a higher floor, as it gives the stay a little more of a resort-like feeling.
For a one-night stay, however, the floor probably will not make a major difference.
Breakfast Was Better Than Expected
If possible, I strongly recommend booking a rate that includes breakfast.
The first reason is simple: the breakfast offers very good value for the price. The second reason is even more practical—there are not many restaurants, shops, supermarkets, or casual dining options within comfortable walking distance of the hotel.
Since this hotel is also used by package-tour guests, breakfast can feel busy at certain times. If your schedule allows, it may be more comfortable to eat slightly later, after the early group guests have finished and left.

More of a Three-Star Hotel Than a Four-Star One
I do not mean this negatively. The price is simply very low.
Many other four-star global chain hotels in Bali can cost around $80 per night, while this property is often closer to $50 per night. Naturally, expectations should be adjusted accordingly.
One thing to be aware of is the location. The hotel is close to the airport, but it is slightly removed from the main tourist areas. The surrounding streets are not particularly pedestrian-friendly, and some areas can feel dark at night.
Personally, I once encountered a motorcycle snatching incident while walking alone nearby after dark. Since then, I no longer walk around this area alone at night.
In other words, this is a hotel with very clear strengths and limitations.
Better for a Short Airport Stay Than a Long Bali Base
For most travelers, this hotel works best as a half-night stay before a flight, or simply as a practical place to sleep on arrival night.
For a longer stay, I personally found Four Points by Sheraton Bali, Ungasan to be a better option. Compared with this airport hotel, the Ungasan property feels more suitable for travelers who want a calmer stay with a more balanced sense of comfort.
The main advantage here is convenience. It works well when airport access is the priority, but for an actual Bali stay of several nights, I would prefer the Four Points option.

Final Thoughts
If I needed a hotel for one night before or after a flight, Hilton Garden Inn Bali Ngurah Rai Airport would make perfect sense.
The basics are reliable, the price can be very attractive, the airport access is excellent, and breakfast adds genuine value. Used for the right purpose, it is a practical and sensible choice.
However, I would not choose it as my main base for a longer Bali trip. The surrounding area is not especially walkable, particularly at night, and the overall atmosphere feels closer to a functional airport hotel than a resort-style stay.
Ultimately, Hilton Garden Inn Bali Ngurah Rai Airport is a strong-value airport hotel when convenience matters most. For several nights in Bali, however, I would personally choose a quieter and more comfortable area instead.
