The St. Regis Maldives Vommuli Resort Review: Seaplane Transfer Cost, Lounge & Beach Villa

Hello, I’m SINAE, a travel writer who spends most of the year—nearly 300 days—living and working abroad.

Among the many destinations I have experienced, I have always felt most drawn to oceanfront escapes. There is something deeply restorative about being surrounded by water, and among all such places, the Maldives stands apart. Often described as the ultimate expression of a tropical retreat, it is a destination many people dream of visiting at least once in their lifetime.

During my time in the Maldives, I stayed for approximately 30 days in total, moving between several resorts to experience different environments. Among them, I spent three nights and four days on an all-inclusive stay at The St. Regis Maldives Vommuli Resort, a property that left a particularly lasting impression.

Choosing the Right Resort — A Decision That Defines the Entire Experience

The Maldives is widely regarded as one of the world’s most iconic honeymoon destinations. At the same time, it is not a place most people visit casually. The cost of resorts is significant, and for many travelers, it may be a once-in-a-lifetime journey. For that reason, selecting the right resort is perhaps the single most important decision you will make.

Unlike traditional beach destinations, each resort in the Maldives occupies its own private island. This means the experience differs fundamentally from coastal cities with long, continuous public beaches. Every island exists as its own self-contained world.

While some resorts can be reached by speedboat, most of the higher-end luxury properties—including The St. Regis Maldives Vommuli Resort—require arrival by seaplane. The round-trip seaplane transfer typically costs between $745 and $870 per person, and it is a mandatory component of the reservation. Because of this additional investment and travel time, I strongly recommend staying at least three or four nights to fully appreciate the experience.

There is even a phrase travelers sometimes use—the “Maldives university”—to describe the sheer number of resorts and the endless comparisons that follow. While research is essential, I believe there is equal value in preserving a sense of openness. Excessive analysis can unintentionally diminish the emotional impact of arrival. Personally, although I write detailed reviews, I intentionally avoid learning everything in advance. Allowing the experience to unfold naturally preserves a sense of wonder that cannot be recreated later.

Seaplane Transfer — Private Lounge and a Seamless Arrival

My international flight arrived in the Maldives around 3 PM, and the seaplane departure was scheduled for approximately 4:30 PM. During this interval, I was escorted to the private seaplane lounge reserved exclusively for guests of The St. Regis Maldives Vommuli Resort.

The lounge itself was beautifully designed—refined, tranquil, and quietly luxurious. Floor-to-ceiling windows overlooked the ocean, creating an atmosphere of calm anticipation. Coffee and desserts were served, transforming what could have been a simple waiting period into an intentional and enjoyable part of the journey.

Upon clearing immigration and exiting the airport, I was greeted immediately by a staff member holding my name. There was no uncertainty, no confusion, and no need to navigate unfamiliar logistics. Every transition unfolded effortlessly.

This, in my view, is one of the defining characteristics of true luxury—not excess, but the complete absence of friction.

The Seaplane Journey — An Experience in Its Own Right

At first, I wondered whether the one-hour seaplane journey might feel long. In reality, it became one of the most unforgettable parts of the entire trip.

From the moment the aircraft lifted off, the scenery below was extraordinary. Endless gradients of turquoise water, scattered coral atolls, and the vast openness of the Indian Ocean created a landscape that was impossible to look away from. It felt less like transportation and more like a private aerial tour.

If possible, I strongly recommend selecting a window seat.

The takeoff and landing were remarkably smooth, far gentler than expected. Upon arrival, I was welcomed at the resort’s arrival pavilion, where my personal butler was already waiting.

One of the defining features of The St. Regis Maldives Vommuli Resort is its dedicated butler service. Each villa is assigned a private butler who manages your schedule, coordinates dining reservations, and assists with every aspect of your stay. From arranging dinners to confirming departure transfers, their presence quietly ensures a seamless experience.

During my stay, this service added a level of ease and personalization that significantly enhanced the overall journey.

Beachfront Pool Villa — A Different Way to Experience the Maldives

For this stay, I chose a Beachfront Pool Villa.

While overwater villas are widely considered the signature accommodation of the Maldives, beachfront villas offer a distinctly different—and equally meaningful—experience.

Overwater villas provide direct ocean access and convenient snorkeling opportunities. However, the waters immediately surrounding them do not always display the vivid emerald tones many travelers expect, and marine life can sometimes be less visible directly outside the villa.

In contrast, beachfront villas open directly onto coral sand beaches, where the colors of the ocean appear especially vibrant. Stepping outside and seeing the shoreline just a few steps away creates a deeper sense of connection with the natural environment.

Experiencing both provides a more complete perspective of the Maldives.

One of the most memorable moments of my stay was the floating breakfast. At the scheduled time, staff arrived and arranged everything perfectly in the private pool. It transformed an ordinary morning into something quietly extraordinary.

Interior Design and Comfort — Warmth, Space, and Precision

The villa interior was exceptionally spacious, with warm wood tones that created an atmosphere both refined and welcoming.

From the bed, I could see the ocean framed by lush greenery, allowing the natural environment to remain present even while indoors.

Turndown service was provided daily, ensuring the villa remained immaculate. Nespresso coffee capsules and TWG tea were replenished regularly—something I particularly appreciated as someone who enjoys coffee throughout the day.

Upon arrival, I was welcomed with a handwritten note, fresh fruit, and handcrafted chocolates shaped like dolphins—small details that reflected the resort’s meticulous attention to guest experience. Life jackets were also provided in the villa, eliminating the need to bring additional equipment.

Bathroom — Where Luxury Becomes Tangible

The bathroom was remarkably spacious, large enough to feel like an extension of the living space itself. A double vanity provided ample space, and the centrally positioned bathtub became a focal point of the room. Upon check-in, a bubble bath had already been prepared, creating an immediate sense of arrival and relaxation.

Amenities were replenished daily, and their quality was exceptional. The shampoo, conditioner, and body wash featured a subtle lemongrass fragrance that felt both refreshing and appropriate for the tropical setting.

Every detail reflected thoughtful design and careful execution.

What Defines True Luxury — Consistency Across the World

One realization I have had after staying at many luxury hotels—including St. Regis, Ritz-Carlton, and JW Marriott properties around the world—is that their overall atmosphere and hardware quality are remarkably consistent, regardless of location.

What this means is that while the price may vary significantly depending on the destination, the physical elements themselves—the marble bathrooms, Kohler fixtures, and overall construction quality—are often very similar.

For example, in Vietnam, a luxury hotel may cost under $1,000 per night, while in the Maldives, the price can reach $5,000 per night. However, this does not mean the hardware itself is five times more luxurious. The true difference lies not in the building, but in the natural environment.

In the Maldives, the defining luxury is not the room itself, but the ability to exist fully immersed in one of the most extraordinary natural settings in the world. Experiencing that environment—waking up beside the ocean, stepping directly onto coral sand, and feeling completely removed from the outside world—is what truly defines a stay at The St. Regis Maldives Vommuli Resort.

Final Thoughts — A Place That Remains With You

There are destinations you visit, and there are places that remain with you long after you leave.

My stay at The St. Regis Maldives Vommuli Resort belonged firmly in the latter category. Every transition felt seamless. Every space was thoughtfully designed. Every interaction carried a quiet sense of care.

There is something profoundly meaningful about allowing yourself to experience the very best, even if only once. If you are planning a honeymoon or a truly special journey, The St. Regis Maldives is a destination worthy of serious consideration.

In my next post, I will share my experience of the resort’s main swimming pool and Iridium Spa.
